A Grapegrowing and Winemaking family
Barossa Ranges Vineyards was formed in 1998 by three brothers Michael, Zissis and Nicholas Zachopoulos. The land (104Ha) was purchased in 1998 for the purpose of establishing a vineyard.
The vineyard is situated in the southern end of Barossa Ranges (Eden Valley GI) South Australia. It is a cool climate area with an elevation of 450m. The property once belonged to a famous winegrowing family ’The Gilberts’, who first planted vines in the Pewsey Vale area in 1847, however this property was never previously planted to vines.
Established in 1998
Planning and preparation commenced in 1998 and by December 1999 the first 40Ha of vines were planted. This was followed by a further planting of 10Ha in 2001. The vineyard is planted to 10 varieties that were carefully selected for their ability to produce fine wines from this cool area.
Types of Wines available
The red varieties are Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir. The whites include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon, Riesling, Viognier and Pinot Gris.
The grapes produced are supplied to a large and well respected family owned winery in the Barossa Valley. Some of the grapes are retained to make the wine under our own label BlueRock.
And now Olives
The property was also established with a large olive grove. The trees have reached maturity and the fruit is processed producing high quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil and pickled Kalamata olives.
