Vineyards Category ABOUT AVENUE WINES: The Ochota family established a vineyard in the Clare Valley of South Australia in the 1960s. From these origins George Ochota now makes wine from grapes grown in the best regions of South Australia . Hand crafted wines are produced from selected parcels of premium grapes from Clare Valley, including the former family vineyard at Stanley Flat, 5 km north of Clare. Traditional techniques for red wine making such as fermenting in small, open, temperature controlled tanks and gentle basket pressing are used to express the grapes' natural fruit flavours in the wine. The red wines are all barrel aged in small wood to provide balance and complexity with fine oak tannins. Avenue Wines is represented in the 2009 edition of the Australian Wine Companion produced by James Haliday. The winery has been rewarded with a four and half star rating with its wines achieving scores up to 94 points.
